The idea that the best legal advice is found in the hallowed halls of mega law firms is countered by the existence of a network of highly qualified lawyers who have left these companies to work on a more personal basis. James Lange is one of these qualified, competent and experienced lawyers who work right in your neighborhood delivering legal assistance. Give him a call and you’ll immediately notice how easy it is to work with him and the wealth of experience he brings to your situation. You’ll also benefit from Jim’s ability to handle a multitude of details at the same time while processing your case.
Whether you’re looking for arbitration and mediation, litigation or assistance with tax and business consulting, Jim can help you negotiate the complicated issues of the laws that govern your specific situation. He has spent years utilizing his accounting and engineering knowledge as a corporate accountant and fixed asset manager. Jim has also worked as an associate for a large law firm, handling high value property and personal injury cases. The cases he has handled include injuries related to fires, explosions and toxic contamination in over a dozen different states. Jim once worked for a corporation and helped it develop a program for tracking all the manufacturing equipment and other assets it owned and operated in 17 countries around the world.
Jim’s strong background in tax helps him understand the issues surrounding, for example, estate planning. He can provide assistance to individuals, families and organizations in transferring small business assets to the next generation and, in effect, enhancing wealth. “By crafting the appropriate estate vehicle, taxes are reduced and more of your hard earned wealth can be transferred to your loved ones,” said Jim when asked to discuss wealth enhancement and planning. Other services Jim can assist with include planning for the distribution of income, allocation of capital gains, depreciation schedules as well as analysis of active, passive and/or ordinary income among others.
“For me, litigation is exciting and challenging because each case is new and different,” said Jim. He added, “sometimes the things you look at become second nature because of experience with similar cases.” Jim has a range of experience ranging from the simplest to the most extreme. His litigation experience as well as his knowledge about the intricacies of finance and the law will be valuable in guiding your issue to a fair and satisfactory conclusion.
Jim Lange completed law school at William Mitchell College of Law. While there, he was selected to participate in the school’s negotiation team and also earned an award as a top student in his class due to his work in the school’s law clinic. He also completed a Master of Arts at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D., satisfied the requirements necessary to qualify for the Certified Public Accounting examination, and has been recognized by the Minnesota Supreme Court as a Qualified Neutral under Rule 114 of the Minnesota General Rules of Practice for Civil Facilitative Adjudicative Alternative Dispute Resolution, Arbitration and Mediation.
Jim feels a deep commitment to the agricultural sector; and has volunteered his time and expertise in the past on a pro-bono basis to Minnesota and South Dakota farmers through the Farmers’ Legal Action Group, Inc. Jim has been a member of: the American Society of Agricultural Engineers, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, Minnesota State Bar Association, the American Association of Attorney-Certified Public Accountants, the Lutheran Church and numerous other organizations.
Jim is also known as Prof. James Lange and has taught the following classes at St. Cloud State University, the University of St. Thomas, Minnesota State University – Mankato, University of St. Catherine among others.
